Fire False Alarms

West Vancouver Fire and Rescue attends over 500 false alarm activations annually.  In order to minimize the number of false fire alarms, and to assist you with your system, an false fire alarm fee has been implemented. 


Attendance to False Fire Alarms

The Fees and Charges Bylaw No. 4414, 2005, Amendment Bylaw No. 4589, 2009 stipulates that a fee is to be charged for all false fire alarms.

The annual fee includes the maintenance of property reference contacts (required under Municipal bylaw) in all Municipal databases.

  • On the occurrence of a 1st false fire alarm, during any consecutive twelve month period, there will be a fee charged of:     FREE
  • On the occurrence of a 2nd false fire alarm, during any consecutive twelve month period, there will be a fee charged of:    $200
  • On the occurrence of a 3rd false fire alarm, during any consecutive twelve month period, there will be a fee charged of:     $300
  • On the occurrence of a 4th false fire alarm, and for each subsequent false alarm, during any consecutive twelve month period, there will be a fee charged of:     $400

In addition, the Fire Alarm System Regulation Bylaw No. 3869, 1994 stipulates:

Section 3, Owner's Responsibilities:  The owner of real property shall be responsible for the proper use, installation, maintenance and operation of any Fire Alarm System installed on or in real property in order to ensure the prevention of false alarms.
