Garbage Collection

Rules for setting out curbside collection materials are outlined in the West Vancouver's Solid Waste By-law.

Pick-up Times

  • Garbage is collected every other week, year round.
  • Garbage, recycling, Green Cans and yard trimmings must be at the curb not earlier than 5 a.m. and not later than 7:30 a.m. the morning of collection.
  • Set your garbage and green can out in the morning, not the night before. Pick-up can occur any time after 7:30 a.m. and collection routes can change without notice.
  • All solid waste containers must be brought in and stored within the property by 9 p.m. on collection day.

Adhering to West Vancouver's pick-up times is important to prevent wildlife and bear problems. More information at Bear Smart Tips for West Vancouver Waste Storage.

Garbage Limits

  • The limit is a maximum of two garbage cans per collection day (totalling 154 litres) for single family households.
  • A garbage tag is required to remove more than 154 litres of garbage per collection day.
  • Purchase garbage tags ($6 for each extra can or bag) at the West Vancouver Community Centre, Gleneagles Community Centre, and Municipal Hall.
