West Vancouver's Community Heritage Register
The preparation of a Community Heritage Register was approved by Council as the key plan implementation action, following adoption of the Heritage Strategic Plan in June 2006. A new “Heritage Strategic Plan Implementation Working Group” (Heritage Working Group) was created in mid 2007 to work with staff and a heritage consultant in guiding this project. The project formally got underway in September 2007, following approval of Provincial funding and selection of Commonwealth Historic Resource Management Ltd. as the heritage consultant.
On November 26, 2007, Council established the District of West Vancouver Community Heritage Register, pursuant to Section 954 of the Local Government Act, and approved the inclusion of Hollyburn Lodge as the first historic place to be listed on the Register.
On June 9, 2008, Council received for information a list of 171 additional nominations to the Register, which was developed by the Working Group, and is contained in a comprehensive report by Commonwealth Historic Resource Management Ltd (heritage consultant). This document also contains a heritage context statement, thematic framework and selection criteria.
To date, 43 resources have been added to the Register. Previously nominated resources remain eligible for addition at a future date; and further nominations can be submitted for consideration.
