Media Release - West Vancouver Community Centre Wins International Architecture Award

West Vancouver, BC: The West Vancouver Community Centre has been honoured with the International Architecture Award which is organized by the Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design together with The European Center for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies and Metropolitan Arts Press.
The award recognizes the best, new significant buildings and their place within community. The award is international in scope and recognizes excellence in architecture and design. Annually, the award recipients provide an important global overview of the current design aesthetic direction for major commercial, corporate, institutional and residential works.
Mayor Pamela Goldsmith-Jones says, “West Vancouver is honoured to be recognized on the global stage for excellence in architecture for the West Vancouver Community Centre. The building allows our community to excel.”
Other Canadian winners include the Jasper Place Branch Library in Edmonton and the Canadian Museum of Nature Renovation in Ottawa.
Past Community Centre architecture awards include:
- British Columbia Recreation and Parks Association Facility Excellence Award (2010)
- Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia Merit Award in Architecture (2010)
- 2010 SAB Canadian Green Building Award - Sustainable Architecture & Building magazine (2010)
- 2010 Real Estate Board of Greater Vancouver, Commercial Building Award Category: Community facilities (2010)
- World Architecture Festival/ONCE Foundation Award for Accessibility – award was presented in Barcelona Spain
- Athletic Business Magazine 30th Annual Facilities of Merit Award (2010)
