Sustainability is about meeting our needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs. A sustainable future for West Vancouver requires that we live, think, and act in a manner that integrates social, economic, and environmental interests and balances them over time.
This concept is integral to the Official Community Plan (OCP). The plan contains several policies and directions aimed at moving West Vancouver towards a more sustainable future.
Recognizing that a healthy community depends on a healthy environment, the OCP calls for an Environmental Strategy to chart a course for how the environmental policies of the OCP will be put into practice.
The District is working to integrate sustainability into how the community develops and functions, by facilitating:
- Smarter, more efficient public and private developments;
- Unique and effective public engagement and education;
- Advanced environmental protection regulations in our mountainous, coastal community
