Subject: SITA calls for community buy-in for waste project

If Mr Palmer-Jones would stop trashing community recycling projects then it would help his call for community buy-in. Unfortunately Sita's motto of maximise the profit and meet the mimimum contract requirements leaves no room for anything else, e.g. community. I would suggest Sita's motivation for planning changes is to maximise the number of installations it can place in this country and hence maximise its profits for its French parent company.

WHAT THE ** Cllr Porter said that it should be up to councils to decide how to dispose of waste. This is it then, all we have been working towards, Let Councils have the last word on what state we leave this world in for future generations. I despair of any sanity from these self serving idiots. What a bunch of cp How the hell are householders supposed to get on board with recyclig when this is line taken. Its complete madness.

Does anybody know of a company that wishes to buy a densifier for melting down polystyrene into brickets? I have one that we purchased just before we lost a contract, so it is no longer required.

Subject: Mixed plastic recycling

Well done Recoup, at last someone has stood up and told the real story behind mixed plastic packaging (see letsrecycle.com story "Recoup paints bleak picture for mixed plastics - 9th November) It's about time that local authorities became aware of the facts behind this issue and acted responsibly rather than acting in a manner which is forcing the collection and treatment of a waste stream that is worthless simply because the public want it. We must have the infra-structure in place to allow treatment methodology and end markets to develop properly before we start collecting, not the other way round.

Just wondered if any local authorities have charged landlords of HMOs trade waste prices for extra bins that are in addition to the standard bin allocation of the property they are renting out?

Subject: Slow down in composting rates

Could this possibly be down to various councils not being able to collect veg peelings etc for composting? My LA is only able to collect grass clippings in the green bin, veg peelings, teabags etc either go in the compost bin in the garden or in the general waste bin.....
