The following five questions or topics will be presented to the community for discussion at two World Cafés on June 3rd and June 5th.
 
At these sessions, we will look at the main goals identified by the community and develop specific action plans.

I would like West Vancouver to keep it's village feel, and it's own police force.
In my vision there will be areas with large lots with single family homes allowing for the "country lane feel" people love so much here in WV.
To make things affordable we also need some higher density areas. 
I see this high density happening around the community centers.
Both Gleneagles and the newly completed  Marine Drive site.
As this is the destination for most recreational activities from babies to seniors.
to enjoy. In these high density areas there should be zoning for daycare, markets and cafes and shops, art galleries etc.. something for all demographics with in walking distance.
(These business would pay taxes and we need to broaden our tax base)

A ferry dock and a small ferry to downtown and UBC would not only save us all time waiting to get on the bridge, be more environmentally friendly but these ferries would bring tourists from over town to spend money in our local shops.

In my vision there would be a place (maybe two) where one could enjoy some live music and aglass of wine and look at the ocean. We are a waterfront communityafter all.

I have some other ideas I might post later  .... but right now I would like to hear yours

I grew up in a rural area and I like that the pace here is a little slower than in the city
(although I am afraid the pace may stop if there is not a bit of nightlife available)

I like that we have our own police force as it makes me feel safe.
(the thought of not enough Fireman is a bit worrisome )

I live in West Vancouver because  the public schools are very good and
I have a teen age son.
(that has not much to do in this district as he does not participate in organized sports)

I like that yards are mostly private, and that the air is fresh.

West Vancouver is a community with high aspirations, yet we are challenged by an economy in recession. We have worked together to construct the Official Community Plan, and benefited from citizens volunteering their time and expertise to Working Groups. We have an abundance of potential initiatives, but limited resources to execute them. We all value the social and environmental qualities that make West Vancouver unique

To bring the community's realities into focus, a vision needs to be articulated and goals need to be set. Throughout 2009, the District will be developing a community-based Strategic Plan, expecting to achieve:

  • A long-term Vision for the Community
  • Clarity of Mission for the District
  • A set of long-term community goals
  • A Financial Plan that enables those goals
  • A measurement system to ensure the District is achieving those goals

The District of West Vancouver has commenced the public consultation process for the development of a long-term Strategic Plan. Within this online Community Forum, four questions have been posted. These same four questions were discussed at two Open Space Dialogue sessions (April 1st & April 25th). Please provide your response to the four questions posted, so that your perspective can be included in this first phase of public consultation.
