Transportation and Roads

The Engineering and Transportation Department is responsible for maintaining West Vancouver roadways, transportation planning, fleet and equipment management, and Blue Bus public transit.

The Engineering Department maintains more than 250 kilometres of paved roadways in West Vancouver by providing:

  • large construction project management
  • maintenance and repair of pavement, curbs, and sidewalks
  • maintenance and repair of street signs, traffic signals and street lights
  • vegetation management and snow removal

The Engineering Department oversees transportation planning for West Vancouver. Transportation planning includes traffic calming projects, cycling routes, sidewalks and school safety. Long-term planning includes developing and implementing a Strategic Transportation Plan and transportation section of the Official Community Plan.

The District manages a vehicle fleet that consists of 80 vehicles and 50 pieces of major equipment, including golf and turf equipment. Additionally, the West Vancouver Engineering Department provides maintenance services for the West Vancouver School District, West Vancouver Police Department, Community Services and the Ministry of Environment. District staff also provides fleet assistance to the West Vancouver Fire & Rescue. 

Engineering also operates the Blue Bus Transit system, the oldest continuously-operated municipal bus system in North America.
