Water & Sewer

The Engineering Department is responsible for utilities such as water, sewage, storm drainage and flood protection, all of which protect the health of residents and the environment.

The Engineering Department maintains drinking water quality and monitors water as it flows through our network of pipes and pump stations. The Department also takes care of the sewer mains and the individual house connections from the main to the property line dividing private property from the roadway.

Water charges on your Utilities Bill go directly to pay for the drinking water system and to purchase of bulk water from Metro Vancouver. Sewer utility rates and charges on your bill are tied to indoor water use. Sewer utility fees pay for sanitary sewer and storm drainage services. This includes operations and maintenance of pipes, manholes, culverts and sewage lift stations, as well as a capital replacements program for infrastructure.
