Ambleside Town Centre Plan
Ambleside, as West Vancouver’s town centre, provides something for all District residents, whether it’s where they live or work or where they shop, socialize or access municipal services.
In the fall of 2017, as part of the wider OCP review process, the District worked with the community on some initial engagement about opportunities for the future of Ambleside Town Centre. This included forming an Ambleside Engagement Team made up of staff and local stakeholders: Ambleside Dundarave Business Improvement Association, Ambleside Dundarave Ratepayers’ Association, West Vancouver Community Centre, West Vancouver Memorial Library, West Vancouver Seniors’ Activity Centre and West Vancouver Secondary School.
The Ambleside Engagement Team advised staff on a range of early engagement opportunities, notably the publication of a community profile of Ambleside, hosting a speakers forum in partnership with the West Vancouver Community Centres Society and conducting a community survey. More information about each of these engagement activities is available in the sections below.
The Ambleside Town Centre Plan remains a priority of Council and is included as part of the Local Economy’s Strategic goal, specifically as Objective 2.1 “Initiate local area plan for Ambleside Town Centre”. While the timeline of the project is yet to be determined, the District remains committed to working with the community through an inclusive public engagement process that provides meaningful opportunities for the community to shape the future of Ambleside.
Part of planning for the future is knowing about Ambleside today: its places and the people who live, work and access services in the town centre.
We've prepared an Ambleside Community Profile to encourage and support an informed public dialogue as we plan for the future.
The West Vancouver Community Centres Services Society (WVCCS), hosted Ambleside: Planning the Town Centre of Tomorrow, a free event which took place on Tuesday, November 7, 2017.
The panel discussion was part of the WVCCS Forum for Dialogue and Learning Series.
Three experts from a range of backgrounds addressed the future of the "town centre" and participated in a moderated discussion with questions submitted by attendees.

A short community survey was conducted between November 1 and December 19, 2017 (both online and with hard copies available at municipal hall) to gain an understanding of people’s initial input into imagining the future of Ambleside.
The results of the community survey have been summarized into the following memo.
Initial engagement about opportunities for Ambleside Town Centre’s future took place in the fall of 2017.
Following the adoption of the District’s new Official Community Plan in 2018, Council directed staff to commence the process to prepare a Horseshoe Bay Local Area Plan. This plan is anticipated to be completed in mid-2020. Staff will seek Council direction at that time on the preparation of the other Local Area Plans.
