Building Permits - Single Family & Duplex

The Provincial Housing Supply Act now requires the District of West Vancouver to collect and report housing information when existing residential dwelling units are demolished and new residential dwelling units are proposed. As a result, Housing Form is now required for new single family, duplex, secondary suites and/or detached secondary suites (i.e., coach house) applications. For questions regarding housing forms, please contact the Planning department via email: [email protected]

Is your property identified by the District as having heritage value?

Buildings identified on the heritage inventory and/or Community Heritage Register are subject to a heritage review as part of the building permit and demolition permit process. However, the District recommends that owners of these buildings consult the Planning Division prior to Building Permit Application and/or Demolition Permit Application, to inquire what additional options are available to the development of the site, while retaining heritage structures.

You can use WestMap to confirm if a property is identified as having heritage value. Turn on the “Planning” and “Heritage Status” layers and then search by the property address.

Wondering what permits are required to install a heat pump?

If you are retrofitting your old boiler or furnace with a heat pump you will need:

  • Load calculations.

If you are altering or installing a hydronic heating system with a heat pump you will need:

  • An Electrical Permit, Hot Water Heating Permit, plus a site plan showing where the heat pump will be placed on your property.
