Shoppers Drug Mart (1583 Marine Drive)
The development permit that was approved for the new Shoppers Drug Mart building in Ambleside expired before the redevelopment started. A new proposal has been submitted and is under review.
At the May 16, 2016 Council meeting, Council approved the development permit renewal for Shoppers Drug Mart. Shopper's intends to begin construction on their new building in the early part of 2017.
Shoppers Drug Mart has applied to the District to renew their expired development permit to construct a new one-storey drug store. No changes to the plans are proposed. The application renewal will be considered by Council at its May 16, 2016, meeting at 6 p.m. in Council Chamber at Municipal Hall.

Shoppers Drug Mart has indicated that they have put all of their redevelopment plans and proposals on hold for the time being due to corporate restructuring. At this time, it is unknown when the new store in Ambleside will be constructed.

On Monday, October 6, 2014 Council gave consideration to a development permit application for the Shoppers Drug Mart at 1583 Marine Drive in Ambleside. At the meeting, Council approved the development permit which will provide for the demolition of the existing building and parking lot and construction of a new retail store with roof top parking. Vehicle access to the roof top parking will be from a ramp off of 16th Street. The applicant is fulfilling conditions prior to development permit issuance. After the development pemit is isssued, they will apply for a building permit.
