Harmony Arts Festival 2022: Welcome Message from Mayor and Council

Aug 4, 2022

On behalf of West Vancouver Council, it is my pleasure to invite you to the 31st annual Harmony Arts Festival!

Mid-summer is a magical time of year when the West Vancouver waterfront transforms into a vibrant celebration of the arts in its many forms.

The energy and excitement of live music mixed with the sounds of delight lingers on a warm breeze against the backdrop of a twinkling Lions Gate Bridge at dusk.

A delicious fusion of flavours from around the globe infuses the air, while splashes of colour draw art enthusiasts to tented seaside galleries.

Harmony Arts is truly a feast for the senses, and one of my favourite festivals because it brings together residents and visitors for a world-class arts and culture experience.

We are excited this summer for the return of a full festival program spanning 10 days and nights, with a wide array of free entertainment and activities for all ages.

Millennium Park is the heart of Harmony Arts and where you will find live music at two different stages, and a variety of food and beverage offerings from local restaurants and food trucks to savour at outdoor dining spaces.

The festival will feature more than 60 free concerts in a broad range of music genres including R&B, jazz, reggae, funk, indie-pop, rock, folk, and blues.

Foodies will not want to miss the signature culinary experience—Best of the West—a competition-style event where guests sample food and drink pairings from a dozen restaurants and wineries and vote for their favourite.

We are honoured to have Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish Nation) artist Xwalacktun and other talented carvers sharing their traditions and work during the festival. Stop by the Indigenous Artists and Carvers Studio to see a demonstration or even try your hand at wood carving.

Find one-of-a-kind handmade gifts, including clothing, ceramics, jewelry, and food items, and support local artisans at the art markets on Argyle Avenue.

Families will enjoy the visual arts hub in John Lawson Park where there will be an outdoor studio with supplies for kids to create their own masterpieces.

Every Harmony Arts season, I am amazed by the artistic talent that surrounds us right here in West Vancouver, and we are proud to offer this unique outlet for established and up-and-coming artists to showcase their skills.

Arts and culture play an essential role in our community, and it is important that the Harmony Arts Festival is an inclusive event accessible by everyone.

I would like to thank the generous sponsors, suppliers, and local businesses, many of which are longtime supporters of our festival, as well as the volunteers for their commitment and positive energy to make Harmony Arts a huge success!

Our vision is to make West Vancouver a more liveable, vibrant, and inclusive community. In this spirit, we encourage you to attend the festival with neighbours, family, and friends.

I look forward to seeing you on the waterfront at the Harmony Arts Festival!

Warm regards,

Mayor Mary-Ann Booth
