Update regarding proof of vaccination for Seniors’ Activity Centre programs and dine-in service

Nov 3, 2021

Effective Monday, November 8:
After careful consideration, the District will require proof of vaccination for:

  • participation in all programs held at the Seniors’ Activity Centre (SAC)
  • shop at SACS on 21st
  • dine-in service at the Garden Side Café

Proof of vaccination will not be required for accessing the SAC building to:

  • attend rehab programs
  • register for programs
  • use the Fireside Coffee Bar & Lounge
  • purchase take-out food from the café
  • use the washrooms

Proof of vaccination checks will occur at the entry point to program rooms, and at the café cash register.

While this measure is above and beyond the current provincial health orders, the District has decided to provide this additional layer of protection based on requests from the Seniors’ Activity Centre Advisory Board and members of our community’s most vulnerable age group.
Another important consideration for this decision is the fact that the SAC operates on a volunteer model, and several volunteers have chosen not to resume their volunteer shifts due to proof of vaccination not being required. This policy will directly support the return of many of our volunteers, who are essential to the day-to-day operations of the SAC.
