Current Projects
West Vancouver Place for Sport

Update - June 2022
The District is currently completing the last pieces of work that need to be done prior to tendering the construction contracts. This work includes:
- Final design and specifications
- Final pre-construction planning and coordination
Once this work is completed we will tender the contracts. Our anticipated date for that is late summer 2022.
Background
The West Vancouver Place for Sport project is a new track and artificial turf field located at West Vancouver Secondary School. It will replace the existing deteriorating track and poorly-draining grass field.
Although the facility is located on school district land, the Ministry of Education does not provide funding for sports fields. Funding to support this project has been committed by West Vancouver Council, West Vancouver Schools, fundraising and private donations.
In March 2022, an updated estimate was obtained for the project. The Class B estimate is $9.5 million.
The next step is to go to market to obtain a fixed-price bid. At the same time, the District continues to explore additional avenues of funding. Once the fixed-price bids are received, construction plans will be finalized.
Construction anticipated starting in 2022
The District will schedule information meetings to update the neighbourhood on the project details.

The West Vancouver Place for Sport is a new track and artificial turf field located at West Vancouver Secondary School that will replace the existing deteriorating track and poorly draining grass field.
The 2011 District of West Vancouver Sport Field Master Plan recommends the need for an additional artificial field in the community. Combining a new track with an artificial turf infield would support the needs of school students, community track and field clubs, community field sports groups and the greater community recreation needs.
In 2014–2015, the school district and the municipality consulted the community and stakeholders to develop a project scope and study project impacts.
The campaign to raise funds for this project was launched in 2015 by a small group of private citizens starting with a generous donation of $100,000 from the West Vancouver Football (Soccer) Club. Early donations from West Vancouver Schools, West Vancouver Council and the West Vancouver Foundation began a fundraising campaign that has been supported across the community. The donor list today includes almost every public and independent school, numerous community organizations, and a growing number of families and individual citizens.
Once funding is secured for this project, additional community information meetings will be held.
West Vancouver Schools, in partnership with the District of West Vancouver, announced in February 20201, that the running track at West Vancouver Secondary School is being named in honour of one of Canada’s most celebrated athletes, Harry Jerome.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau extended his greetings to everyone that attended the virtual announcement and spoke about Harry Jerome’s legacy.
