Watermain Construction on Taylor Way

As part of the District’s 2021 Utilities Capital Program, the watermain along Taylor Way, between Main Street (located in Park Royal South) and Keith Road, is being replaced. This watermain upgrade allows the District to continue to provide water services to all of our residents.

The District will install a new watermain, fire hydrants, and water services along Taylor Way, between Main Street and Keith Road. The intersection of Marine Drive and Taylor Way is excluded from this work.

Preliminary set-up and equipment staging began on Tuesday, May 11. Construction began on Sunday, May 16 and is expected to take approximately six to eight weeks to complete.

Work for the week of June 20 to 25​​​​​ will include:

  • Work to install the new watermain on Evelyn Drive will take place from Sunday, June 20 at 7 p.m. to Monday, June 21 at 5:30 a.m. Expect minor traffic delays and detours on Evelyn Drive during this work.
  • Work to connect the 600 block of Evelyn Drive to the new watermain will take place on Monday, June 21. Work will take place between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. or later if necessary to complete the work. Expect minor traffic delays and detours on Evelyn Drive during this work.
  • Work to connect Park Royal North to the new watermain will take place from Monday, June 21 at 7 p.m. to Tuesday, June 22 at 5:30 a.m. Expect minor traffic delays and detours from Taylor Way to the Park Royal North lower parking lot during this work.
  • Work to install a fire hydrant on the northeast intersection of Taylor Way and Marine Drive will take place from Tuesday, June 22 at 7 p.m. to Wednesday, June 23 at 5:30 a.m. Expect minor traffic delays and lane closures in northbound lanes on Taylor Way. If necessary, work to install the fire hydrant will continue on Wednesday, June 23 between 7:30 a.m. and 7 p.m.
  • Work to install the new watermain from Taylor Way to Clyde Avenue will take place from Wednesday, June 23 at 7 p.m. to Thursday, June 24 at 5:30 a.m. Expect minor traffic delays and detours on Clyde Avenue during this work.
  • Crews will prepare for the watermain connection and a new fire hydrant installation on Clyde Avenue on Thursday, June 24. Work will take place between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. or later if necessary to complete the work. Expect minor traffic delays and detours on Clyde Avenue during this work.
  • Work to connect Park Royal North to the new watermain will take place from Thursday, June 24 at 7 p.m. to Friday, June 25 at 5:30 a.m. Expect minor traffic delays and detours from Taylor Way to the Park Royal North lower parking lot during this work.
  • Work to connect Clyde Avenue to the new watermain and complete the new fire hydrant installation on Clyde Avenue will take place on Friday, June 25. Work will take place between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. or later if necessary to complete the work. Expect minor traffic delays and detours on Clyde Avenue during this work.

What is being done?
The District will install a new watermain, fire hydrants, and water services along Taylor Way, between Main Street and Keith Road. The intersection of Marine Drive and Taylor Way is excluded from this work.  

Who is doing the work?
District staff will perform this work. You can expect to see District vehicles, machinery and crews working in your area within the boulevard, and roadway.

What are the impacts?
Traffic - The District plans to keep Taylor Way open to two-way traffic during construction, however, please expect delays while travelling through this area and plan for extra travel time. Construction signage and traffic control staff will be on site during construction to assist with traffic flow. Pedestrian traffic will not be impacted.

Hours of work

District bylaws concerning permitted hours of construction are not applicable on Taylor Way as it lies under the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure jurisdiction. A portion of this project must be completed outside of regular construction hours and overnight, as Taylor Way is considered an arterial highway and Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure regulations require night work to minimize impacts on heavy vehicle traffic during regular working hours.
