The image displays a geometric arrangement of three-dimensional cubes, presented in a hexagonal pattern on a textured white background. The cubes appear to be made of paper or cardstock, with a matte finish and visible paper grain. They are arranged in concentric layers, with the widest layer forming a hexagonal outline, and a single cube at the center.

Learn triaxial weaving by creating a colourful paper ornament in this hands-on workshop. Artist Dana Cromie will break down the process into simple steps, exploring how tone and colour interact. All materials provided. Participants will leave with a finished hexagonal piece that will inspire them to explore these construction techniques further. Note: trimming with a ruler and a sharp blade is required; some dexterity is needed. Suitable for ages 14 and up.

About the artist:

Image
A medium shot portrait of a light-skinned, bald man with a mustache and goatee is captured against a vibrant, geometric background. He is looking to his left, with his head slightly tilted. The man is wearing a plaid flat cap in shades of brown, red, and green. He has round, dark-rimmed glasses on. His attire includes a bright pink polo shirt peeking out from under a deep purple knitted sweater.

Raised in West Vancouver by a WWII decoder, Dana Cromie has a lifelong interest in puzzles. He was in the first cohort of Studio Art students at Capilano College in 1970. He has had solo exhibits at UBC Beaty Biodiversity Museum, Britannia Art Gallery, The Cultch, Pendulum Gallery, and Paneficio Gallery. In October 2026, Dana is in a trio exhibit at CityScape in North Vancouver, “Angles and Curves: Contemporary Hard-Edge Abstraction.” As an artist, he enjoys exploring perception in two dimensions.

Dana has thirteen years of experience incorporating weaving into his art practice, and has been practicing triaxial weaving for eight years. He uses triaxial weaving in works of 2D art, mobiles, and as Christmas ornaments. Dana has previous experience teaching workshops in Botanical Illustration and iPad Drawing Using Procreate.
