This is a watercolor painting featuring two small birds in a vibrant, abstract floral setting. The birds, positioned in the upper center, are depicted with simplified shapes. The bird on the left is a warm orange with scattered white dots, suggesting a speckled breast. The bird on the right is a rich reddish-pink. Their beaks are touching, creating a sense of connection or affection. Both birds are outlined in thin black ink.

Explore how watercolour can be enhanced and made more expressive using inks and mixed media. Working with line and wash, we’ll use fine-tip black markers to bring ideas to life through playful lines, contour marks, and spatter. Sonia will begin the process with basic watercolour washes, demonstrate drawing, and build creativity with watercolour pencils and white gel pens. Suitable for all levels.

About the artist:

Image
A woman is smiling at the camera, showcasing a joyful expression. The setting appears to be indoors with a wall in the background. She is likely enjoying the moment, possibly surrounded by art or books in her room.

Sonia Mocnik uses the medium of watercolour to capture colour and light on fine art paper. Her works are held locally and internationally and have been exhibited as far away as at Fabriano, Italy, Albania and Mexico. She draws her audience into the natural elements of her paintings that create an emotional response from the viewer. She has won awards for her outdoor painting “en plein air”. Sonia instructs watercolour classes and workshops locally through community centres and other venues, including the Community Centre and the Music Box in West Vancouver.
