The proposed Zoning Amendment Bylaw 5339, 2024 was given 2nd and 3rd reading on October 28, 2024. The bylaw was adopted by Council at their November 18, 2024, Regular Council meeting.

The public hearing was held on Monday, October 21, 2024, at 7 p.m. in the Municipal Hall Council Chambers.

At the Regular Council meeting on Monday, September 23, 2024, Council gave first reading of the bylaw and set the date for the public hearing.

May 2024

The applicant submitted a zoning amendment application to permit cannabis retail sales at 6609 Royal Avenue on a permanent basis.

April 2024

In compliance with District public engagement requirements, the applicant hosted a preliminary public information meeting on April 10, 2024 prior to submitting a formal rezoning application.

December 2021

At the December 15, 2021 Regular Council meeting, Council approved Temporary Use Permit No. 21-004 for 6609 Royal Avenue.

Background

At the Regular Council Meeting on May 31, 2021 Council adopted the Interim Non-Medical Cannabis Retail Policy 0137. The Policy includes evaluation criteria for considering the geographical distribution and limits on cannabis retail businesses across the municipality including a maximum of one cannabis store for each shopping area.
