North Shore Standing Committee on Substance Abuse

Purpose

The North Shore Standing Committee on Substance Abuse acts as a catalyst to bring together those in the community who are working to reduce the impact and incidence of substance abuse. It is a forum for exchanging ideas, coordinating efforts and supporting community-based initiatives. The Leaders that make up the North Shore Standing Committee on Substance Abuse recognize the opportunity and responsibility they have to advocate for solutions, and to raise community awareness and include community partners.

Role

Senior staff from the Committee serve as liaisons on the Staff Implementation Team. In addition to other duties as the Chair or Committee may assign, the Staff Implementation Team will assist the Chair in reviewing the minutes, setting the agenda and preparing for meetings.

A committee clerk is provided to the committee who is responsible for minute taking, preparation of agenda packages in an accessible format to all committee members and those requesting this information and all meeting arrangements.

Meetings

The North Shore Standing Committee on Substance Abuse shall elect a Chair from its membership. All decisions and recommendations shall be made by consensus where possible. The North Shore Standing Committee on Substance Abuse shall meet either on a predetermined date set at the beginning of each calendar year or at the call of the Chair. Meetings shall commence at 5 p.m. unless otherwise agreed by the Committee or deemed necessary by the Chair.

The North Shore Standing Committee on Substance Abuse shall prepare a work plan in conjunction with the evaluation of the previous year's work plan and implementation/accomplishments. The Committee shall file budget requests to their respective organization as needed. The Committee may collaboratively apply to other funding bodies as opportunities arise.
