The newly restored Ferry Building Gallery is opening its doors today and welcomes the public back into its unique and historic space. Patrick Weiler, Member of Parliament for West Vancouver—Sunshine Coast—Sea to Sky Country, Anne Kang, Minister of Municipal Affairs, and Mayor Mark Sager will be cutting the ribbon at 4 p.m. to mark this milestone event.
The Ferry Building Gallery restoration is part of the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program, with funding provided by the Federal Government of Canada and the Government of British Columbia, with additional funding provided by the District of West Vancouver. These investments have helped restore this cherished landmark located near the waterfront in Ambleside.
The wood frame building was constructed in 1913 and designated as a Municipal Heritage Property in 1987. The building has historical value for its associations with the municipal ferry and bus services, both of which were integral to the development of West Vancouver. The restoration ensures its safety from the impacts of sea level rise, and seismic and other upgrades make it more accessible to the entire community.
“The Ferry Building Gallery has been a part of the West Vancouver community for 108 years and has played an important role in highlighting and preserving local arts and culture,” says Patrick Weiler, Member of Parliament for West Vancouver—Sunshine Coast—Sea to Sky Country, on behalf of the Honourable Dominic LeBlanc, Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs, Infrastructure and Communities. “The Government of Canada is proud to support the restoration of this historic building, providing residents and tourists a more comfortable space to enjoy quality culture and heritage programming for generations to come.”

The Ferry Building Gallery provides North Shore artists with visibility through a range of events which attract thousands of visitors annually. Over 60 volunteers contribute to the daily operation of the gallery.
A Gallery Opening Reception will be held on April 5 from 6 to 8 p.m. for “Sibling Revelry”, the first show to welcome people back into the restored gallery.
