West Vancouver Mayor and Council are pleased to announce the acquisition of the final property on Argyle Avenue required to complete the continuous green space envisioned in the Ambleside Waterfront Plan. As part of this long-term initiative to expand public park space and improve waterfront access, the house at 1444 Argyle Avenue has been acquired and will be removed in early fall 2025, allowing for the creation of additional open park space for the community to enjoy.
The District has been working to enhance public access to the waterfront since the mid-1950s. The initial efforts led to the creation of Ambleside Park through the purchase and removal of cottages and homes. In the 1970s, the District began acquiring properties along Argyle Avenue between 13th Street and 18th Street to further extend this vision.
In 2016, following extensive community consultation, Council formally endorsed the Ambleside Waterfront Plan. The plan includes improvements designed to enhance the waterfront for residents and visitors alike, including expanded green spaces, multi-use plazas, upgraded community facilities, and enhanced public access to the shoreline. Implementation of the plan has been progressing in phases, with this latest acquisition representing a significant step forward.
With the acquisition of 1444 Argyle Avenue, the continuous green space connecting Ambleside Park and John Lawson Park will now be complete. This newly expanded waterfront park space is expected to be open to the public by spring 2026, offering a continuous and accessible waterfront experience for all to enjoy.
