On June 13, 2022, Council directed staff to prepare three high-level, draft options for engagement and to report back in the first quarter of 2023. Staff presented the draft options to Council and have been directed to proceed with community engagement.

Why do we need a Local Area Plan (LAP)?
An LAP is a framework that:
- guides positive change and strengthens the identity, livability, and success of a particular area;
- outlines the long-range vision for Ambleside as a whole, and provides more detailed regulations and guidelines to shape the form and character of new development;
- confirms the local policy response to planning topics such as housing, commerce, mobility, sustainability, and the public realm; and
- once adopted, would become part of the West Vancouver’s Official Community Plan (OCP).

We invite you to review the draft options—compiled in the Options Booklet—to get ready to take part in the process. We’ll be holding workshops, starting in April, so you can share your ideas about the future of this unique place.
The three options are not definitive. They are draft, high-level, and provided as a tool to generate your feedback, invite your new ideas, and facilitate community dialogue.

The District is committed to public engagement that provides meaningful opportunities to shape the future of Ambleside. This will include working with local stakeholders and the community through a series of in-person and virtual workshops. All feedback will be presented to Council in July 2023, along with a single LAP framework, to seek further direction from Council.
